Side rant here. Why do companies do this? It is beyond annoying. I really love my Clinique Almost Make-up but apparently that was discontinued and they've launched a Moisture Sheer or Moisture Surge tint, that is basically the same thing. Um, what? How is this a good business strategy? I just don't get it. Dear Cosmetics Companies, Knock it off...no one finds this endearing. Thank you.
Okay so anyway, I went through the AVON catalogue and found a product that, from it's description, sounded much like Origins VitaZing aka the AVON product I loved years ago. So I ordered it.... And it came...... And I've been testing it..... And, well let me compare it side by side to VitaZing and you tell me which is which.
Hmmm, both lotion like texture with small tinted beads
Beginning to blend each out
Both now blended out
So now you tell me, which is VitaZing and which is AVON? Can't tell can you? That's because these are pretty much the EXACT SAME PRODUCT! Sorry for yelling but I mean come on, these are so similar. So what is this product?
Introducing my new favourite AVON product;
Introducing my new favourite AVON product;
AVON Ideal Shade-Custom Shade Foundation
How do they compare?
AVON
$9.99CDN for 30ml
SPF 15
Available in light, medium, medium-deep
Sheer coverage
Blends to match your skintone
ORIGINS
$44CDN for 50ml
SPF 15
One shade only
Sheer coverage
Blends to match your skintone
Now I will say that it takes a bit more of the Ideal Shade to get the same coverage as VitaZing, so the Origins will last you longer. But if you do the math, you can buy two of the AVON foundations, for a total of 60ml of product, and still pay less than 50% of what you'd pay for the VitaZing.
Overall I actually like AVON's product better. I found VitaZing often left me a little greasy by the end of the day, but I don't find the same thing with the Ideal Shade. So if you were one of the ones that wanted to try VitaZing but didn't want to spend the money, I'd say you have to try the AVON Ideal Shade. At $10 it's not a huge investment to make, even if it turns out that it's not for you. As for me, I'm stocking up because Lord knows this will disappear eventually.
Oh, and which is which? AVON is the one on the right. How many of you guessed that?
Holy cool Tracy! I hated the Origins Vitazing-didn't match well, and it left me greasy and broke me out! I will definitely order this! They look like the same product to me. I could not tell the difference. Nice dupe girl!
ReplyDeleteThis is exciting news!!! I've never tried the Vitazing but I ADORE a good dupe. Good tip friend!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love great beauty blogs! Glad to find yours!
ReplyDeleteI guessed wrong and I use Vitazing. :-) Great review. Might have to try the Avon one - my neighbor sells it. Thanks!!

Sounds like a great dupe! I love avon's prices. And I know what you mean about companies changing product names or discontinuing a product only to bring it back under a different name with new branding. Guess it's a way to keep things "fresh"!
ReplyDeleteTracy - Thanks lady, let me know how you like it :)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte - Thank you....I love a good dupe too, especially for a 1/3rd of the price!
Boutique on Feet - Thanks for stopping by my blog..appreciate it :)
Jayme - For the price I don't think you'll regret trying it...hard to beat!
Nikosmommy - Keeping things fresh or keeping us guessing...haha, either way it's tres annoying ;)
I was all caught up on the VitaZing hype for a while but realize I don't need it. But it's nice to know there's a much cheaper/better alternative! Nice discovery, Tracy!
ReplyDeletewow crazy that the result is pretty much the same and the prices vary so much! shows sometimes some things are overpriced!
ReplyDeleteThese are the exact same! And I love how Avon is so much more cheaper : )
ReplyDeleteLooks the same to me!! (I'm hollering too!) AVON ALL THE WAY!
ReplyDeletexo,

Sounds Fabulous!! I love a good Dupe!

Hey! I'm going to order the Avon this weekend! And we are also following you on Blog lovin :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, great find, and what a bargain!
ReplyDeleteWhat a deal! Do you think it would work for sensitive skin?
ReplyDeleteKristin - Hard to say, I know everyone is different so I'd hate to say it would be okay. I know that it didn't affect my skin and the Vitazing did somewhat, in that it left it feeling oily...sorry, wish I could be more help :)
ReplyDeleteWhat shade do you have? Looking to trying this but not sure if I should get Light or Medium.
ReplyDeleteGreat review!
yes, please let us know what shade of the avon tint you showed in this post. i loved the coverage of vitazing but it was too dark and orangey for my fair skin.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - Sorry about that, I tried the medium which was good for me in the summer but I use light at this time of year, hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteHi there! Im not able to find this on Avons website, has it been discontinued?
ReplyDeleteI believe it's a seasonal item, look for it closer to summer.
ReplyDeleteSorry to repeat... what was the shade of the avon product in this post? :)
ReplyDeleteI just found your wonderful blog and GREAT dupe to the pricey Origins VitaZing. And guess what? You were right. I went immediately to Avon and searched for this product and the only thing called "Ideal Shade" is a liquid foundation in about 20 shades. :-( Let me join your rant. WHY do companies discontinue or mess with GREAT products?? Can't quite bring myself to pull the trigger on $35 for 1.7 ounces of VitaZing. I guess if we wait around long enough, Avon will re-introduce under another name.....
ReplyDeleteIt's on sale now at Avon.com for $2.99!!! Will have to give it a try! :)
