I had been really been in a foundation rut, so I set out trying to find a better routine for my foundation this year. I definitely have some redness & uneven skin tone that I like to cover, but I don't like looking like I'm wearing a mask. So here's what I tried.
Best of 2010 - Foundation
What I found was this...finding a good foundation is a lot of trial and error. Foundation is such a personal thing, just like the skin on our face. What works great for me may not ever work for you, which can be frustrating and expensive. Having said that, I found a lot of these products through recommendations from other beauty blogs & youtube beauty gurus and some have been outstanding!
Favourite Foundation of 2010
It's a tie!
Laura Mercier Mineral Powder (approx $40 CAD) |
Clinique Almost Makeup SPF15 (approx $25 CAD) |
I just couldn't decide between these two as I love & regularly use both. The Laura Mercier is an absolutely a gorgeous mineral powder, finely milled and goes on beautifully and appears quite seamless on my skin. I use a kabuki brush to apply it or my flat top E.L.F. brush. If I have a spot where I want a bit more coverage, I use a small triangular sponge just to dab it on. I use the Clinique when my skin feels dry or I require less coverage, as to me it's actually somewhere between a full foundation and a tinted moisturizer. I feel like I'm wearing nothing on my skin when I put this on, it's so light and dewy, but not in a bad way. Lovely!
Honourable mention foundation 2010
I agree! I love the Clinique Almost Makeup! The powder form of it is amazing too - it doesn't look like powder at all but gives great coverage! (Too bad I dropped my brand new pan of it and it shattered all over my bathroom floor...) Great reviews!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shaylee, I hate when I drop or nick something!! I haven't tried the powder form of the Clinique but I'm going to now :)
ReplyDeleteI think its so hard to find the right foundation. Now im using the smashbox tinted moisturizer and i like it :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the flat top brush from elf before. The eyeshadow and crease brush are my first brushes by Elf :)
Have you tried the flat top brush before? Is it good? :)
xo Christine
Christine the flat top brush from ELF is hands down the best thing I've bought from them. If you decide to order one, do yourself a favour & get a back up right away...for $3 each it's hard to go wrong. Thanks for visiting my blog!
ReplyDeletePerfect timing, I'm in need of a new foundation. I've heard great things about Laura Mercier products, but have never tried them. I hate buying foundation and lipstick, it's so hard to get the colors right! Have a wonderful Christmas holiday!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I LOVE reading foundation comparisons, because finding the right foundation can be so difficult! I'll definitely check out the LM and Clinique now :)
ReplyDeleteI hadn't tried a lot of Laura Mercier products either Laurel, mostly because of the price. But I have to say, I'm a convert and plan to try her concealer as well. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking out my blog @musicalhouses. I hope you let me know if you try those foundations & what you think. I am now following you as well!
