Best of 2010 - Foundation

I had been really been in a foundation rut, so I set out trying to find a better routine for my foundation this year. I definitely have some redness & uneven skin tone that I like to cover, but I don't like looking like I'm wearing a mask.  So here's what I tried.

Best of 2010 - Foundation

What I found was this...finding a good foundation is a lot of trial and error.  Foundation is such a personal thing, just like the skin on our face.  What works great for me may not ever work for you, which can be frustrating and expensive.  Having said that, I found a lot of these products through recommendations from other beauty blogs & youtube beauty gurus and some have been outstanding!

Favourite Foundation of 2010

It's a tie!
Laura Mercier Mineral Powder (approx $40 CAD)

Clinique Almost Makeup SPF15 (approx $25 CAD)
I just couldn't decide between these two as I love & regularly use both.  The Laura Mercier is an absolutely a gorgeous mineral powder, finely milled and goes on beautifully and appears quite seamless on my skin.  I use a kabuki brush to apply it or my flat top E.L.F. brush.  If I have a spot where I want a bit more coverage, I use a small triangular sponge just to dab it on.  I use the Clinique when my skin feels dry or I require less coverage, as to me it's actually somewhere between a full foundation and a tinted moisturizer.  I feel like I'm wearing nothing on my skin when I put this on, it's so light and dewy, but not in a bad way. Lovely!

Honourable mention foundation 2010
Rimmel Stay Matte Clarifying foundation

This was a great foundation to use on those hot summer days when you want a little coverage but don't want heavy makeup that will look greasy in a matter of minutes.  I have also heard great things about the Rimmel Lasting Finish foundation and am planning to try that as well.  Works great with the Rimmel Fix & Perfect primer!

Least favourite foundation 2010
Maybelline Super Stay foundation

Given the spirit of my blog, I hate that my least favourite foundation this year was a drugstore buy.  Although it was not a huge sacrifice on my wallet at least!  This was a highly recommended foundation in the beauty world but I just couldn't get it to work for me.  I tried it with/without primer, using a brush and my fingers, etc.  It just caked on me and showed up way too much on my skin.  I could never get it to really blend in properly and just did not like the way it looked or felt on me.

As always, please feel free to comment and let me know your hits & misses.

  1. I agree! I love the Clinique Almost Makeup! The powder form of it is amazing too - it doesn't look like powder at all but gives great coverage! (Too bad I dropped my brand new pan of it and it shattered all over my bathroom floor...) Great reviews!!

I haven't tried the flat top brush from elf before. The eyeshadow and crease brush are my first brushes by Elf :)
Have you tried the flat top brush before? Is it good? :)

  4. Christine the flat top brush from ELF is hands down the best thing I've bought from them. If you decide to order one, do yourself a favour & get a back up right away...for $3 each it's hard to go wrong. Thanks for visiting my blog!

  5. Perfect timing, I'm in need of a new foundation. I've heard great things about Laura Mercier products, but have never tried them. I hate buying foundation and lipstick, it's so hard to get the colors right! Have a wonderful Christmas holiday!

  7. I hadn't tried a lot of Laura Mercier products either Laurel, mostly because of the price. But I have to say, I'm a convert and plan to try her concealer as well. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
