My favourite way to apply it!

I thought it would be fun to occasionally post a product or two and my favourite way to apply them.  I know that people have different methods of applying the same product so I thought it would be interesting to share these kinds of ideas.  Case in point is a product I've talked about before,

This is my beloved Maybelline Dream Mousse concealer, which I know is the favourite concealer of many.  My favourite way to apply it is by using a fluffly blending brush, such as my QUO pictured here.  I daub the brush lightly into my concealer, tap it under my eye where I want it and then blend it lightly using small circular motions.  I find this gives me the lightest coverage that is well blended, and I never seem to get any creasing when I apply it this way.

So now that you get the idea.  Since I've already talked about the concealer before I thought I'd add another product today, my MAC paint pot in Painterly.  I love this paint pot and use it often as a base under my eye shadow.  If I'm not going to wear eyeshadow, I often still apply some painterly to my eye just to even out the skin tone & hide any discoloration.  Put some mascara on & you're done!

My favourite way to apply this paint pot is with this Eco tools brush;

This brush isn't marked but I believe it is the eye shader brush.  It comes to a bit of a point on the end and is perfect to get right into the inner part of my eye.  It's also quite thin, which is perfect for this purpose as product doesn't get embedded in the eye brush causing you to use up more than you'd like.

I also find that if I use a brush I tend to apply my paint pot more smoothly than if I use my finger.  Often when I used my finger I'd feel like I was tugging a bit on my eye to apply this.  The brush allows me to apply the thinnest of coats, which is great because too much of a paint pot and you've got a bit of creasy gunked up mess.  Or at least I've managed to achieve that in the past.

I hope you like this idea & I look forward to doing more posts like these.  Please leave me a comment and let me know how you apply your favourite concealer or paint pot type product!

  2. Great idea for a post! I'm going to try the dream mousse concealer. Have you tried MAC's pro longwear concealer? Do you think Maybelline's is better???

  4. That sounds like a fun idea! I usually prefer my fingertips for any sort of blending, after applying the product with a brush. After all, what are fingertips for? :)

  6. Marie - Thanks! I haven't tried Pro longwear but have used the Select cover up for spots. I find it's too heavy under my eyes. I don't necessarily love it but I hear good things about the Studio sculpt, so may try that.

  7. Kim - you have great skin from the looks of your pictures, the best thing about this concealer is that it's quite light and a little goes a long way, but still covers yet looks natural.

  11. I'm a long time LOVER of MAC's painterly paint pot as my eyeshadow base. it's perfection, ever better than UDPP or Toofaced shadow insurance (in my opinion) Though I've never thought to use a brush to apply it!? I figured the heat of my finger would help it blend and melt into my skin, though it's formulation is a bit dry and it suppose it could tug as u rub it on. I love the dream mouse concealer too, but only the summer. I find it a tad too dry in the winter and prefer Benefits erase paste. (the creamy salmon tone really helps with my tired looking eyes,,,without settling into my fine lines.)

    Great review!!!! (as always...) :)

  12. Nikosmommy - I couldn't agree with you more about Painterly, it's my #1 base for sure. Believe it or not I have never tried erase paste, I've always thought it was too salmon toned for my skin but maybe I need to re-think that! Thanks for sweet comments :)

  15. Tracy: it is fun to read your blog each morning, I feel like such a girl (woman)! I took your advice with taking more fish oil, oh my the difference in my skin is amazing! I have had people actually comment.
My favorite product right now is YSL touché éclat (concealer/highlighter). I can wear this over my moisturizer and no foundation.
Have fun discovering new and wonderful products!

  16. MrsT - Thanks as always for the kind comments, I appreciate that so much. I'm glad the fish oil is working for you, that's so great! I have heard nothing but raves about Touche Eclat but I've never allowed myself the splurge, maybe I'll have to open the purse strings a little wider :)

  17. I haven't tried that concealer yet or maybe in the past LOL can't remember but I read good reviews. I didn't like the mousse foundation in the pot but the liquid version wasn't bad.

  18. Monica - Funny how we try/use so many things we start to forget what we liked and didn't :)
